Things to Do in Edmonton

Aptly named “Canada’s Festival City,” Edmonton is made up of seven distinct neighbourhoods: Strathcona, North Edmonton, West Edmonton, Beverly, Central Core, Downtown, and Jasper Place. The city boasts amazing green spaces and municipal parks, and serves as an assembly point for employees of large-scale energy projects in northern Alberta’s oil sands.

Our Location

Located on University Avenue in the Strathcona area, the Days Inn Edmonton South is accessible from all major highways and a top hotel near the University of Alberta and the University of Alberta Hospital. This area of Edmonton is a vibrant neighbourhood with charming restaurants, one-of-a-kind boutiques and energetic street festivals. Our hotel is just a few blocks away from the one of Canada’s best five outdoor shopping areas: Whyte Avenue.

West Edmonton Mall is a no-brainer for an incredible shopping and entertainment experience, but the nearby Whyte Avenue also features great shopping and a fantastic street-scape atmosphere. From vintage stores to trendy boutiques, sweet antiques and vinyl collectibles, a wander down Whyte Avenue is a great way to spend the day ... and some money!

Walking Trails

Edmonton is home to more than 20 major parks and green space attractions, and a river valley 22 times the size of New York City’s Central Park. Get some fresh air and hit the trails scattered around the city, perfect for walking, jogging, or cycling. Download a trail map from the City of Edmonton here.

A vibrant night-life experience is just a few blocks away on Whyte Avenue. Host to festivals and events throughout the year, Whyte Avenue is also home to great jazz and blues clubs (such as Blues on Whyte), country bars (like Cook County Saloon) and pubs (try Elephant & Castle Pub, The Billiard Club, The Next Act Pub, The Pint and The Black Dog Freehouse).

Pro Sports

Check out a pro sporting event during your visit to Edmonton. Hockey fans can catch the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers take to the ice at Rexall Place (or their new home, Rogers Place, starting in 2016) while American-style football fans can watch the CFL’s Edmonton Eskimoes own the field at Commonwealth Stadium. You can also see Edmonton FC on the pitch at SMS Equipment Stadium at Shell Place.
