Are you spending the holidays in Edmonton? Then you’re in luck! There are so many fun and festive events taking place all over the city to celebrate the holidays. From an IMAX viewing of a family-friendly Christmas film to an incredible drive-thru light display, check out this list of what to do in Edmonton this holiday season.

The Polar Express: The IMAX Experience

Experience the family classic The Polar Express in IMAX this holiday season thanks to Edmonton’s Telus World of Science. The Polar Express: The IMAX Experience is a socially distanced event with tons of screenings taking place throughout November and December. Tickets are $13.95 per person and must be purchased in advance. Screenings begin November 28 and are held until December 20.

The Festival of Trees Edmonton

Celebrate the holidays with The Festival of Trees Edmonton. 2020 marks the 36th year of the event, which is hosted by the University Hospital Foundation. While the event is typically held in person, due to the pandemic it is being held virtually this year. But rest assured, all your favourite events and activities are back. These include story time with Mrs. Claus, an online auction, and video chats with Santa. Tickets can be purchased online and prices vary. The event is on now until December 20.

Canadian Tire Magic of Lights

Enjoy a special holiday drive-thru event in Edmonton this year, called The Canadian Tire Magic of Lights at Castrol Raceway. This event features two kilometres of vibrant LED light displays that you will drive through from the safety of your own vehicle. In total, over 1 million lights are being used, as well as digital animation technology, in order to depict the most iconic characters and scenes of the Christmas season. The 2020 Canadian Tire Magic of Lights event will feature the all-new “Ornament Alley,” in addition to popular attractions from past years, such as “The 12 Days of Christmas” and “The Night Before Christmas.” Tickets are sold per car and are available online. The event runs from November 20 until January 2.

If you plan on visiting Edmonton this holiday season, then we recommend reserving a room at the Days Inn by Wyndham Edmonton South. We offer comfortable accommodation at a reasonable price, as well as a top-notch location near some of the top Christmas attractions in Edmonton.
